How I Hack Amazon Kindle Book Publishing Business

How I Hack Amazon Kindle Book Publishing Business

This pandemic is making 2 types of people emerge. The first type of people, they just stayed at home and avoid everyone, and even to the extent of closing themselves to all open opportunities. And their favorite pass time is to wait.

What are they waiting for? Government handouts, cash rebates, and transportation cost to go down while complaining about how unlucky they are to be retrenched.

The second type of people, just can’t sit and wait. They will jump into the opportunity that gave birth from this pandemic. Well, there is nothing wrong to jump from one opportunity to another. At least you’re alive to be exposed to opportunity like NEVER before.

Coming back to the topic of Amazon Kindle book publishing business. I am intrigued by the idea of recursive passive income that book publishers received in the form of royalties.

After watching some YouTubers, who are the guru in this domain, I decided to give it a try. Before I go on to reveal more, please understand there is no business in this world that is “Passive” right from the start. If it’s so, it’s called a SCAM. A certain amount of hard work would be required from your side to produce the so-called passive effects.

  1. Understand what’s required

When starting any business, you need to know what is required to get your business started. For this unique book publishing business, the only required thing you need to have is time. Yes, there no other cost but, there are tools you need to invest in order to turn what you do into a process.

Process is the only thing which you can improve on and scale your business. If you’re still reading this, I assume you’re interested to replace your job with a side income or get started on something new this year.

You are perfectly good to start. If a 14 years old kid which I saw on YouTube can generate 5 figure income per month from this business, I am sure you can do it.

No, this is not a get rich quick scheme. Remember, there is a consistent hard work you need to put into it. STOP reading further if you intend to get rich quick. I don’t think this business is suitable for you.

Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) has been around for many years. I published my first book back in 2013. But I didn’t take it seriously enough to scale it. It was just a test for fun mindset I had back then. Yes, I did make some coffee money from publishing a book for FREE. Someone wrote it for me on a freelance website and when I wanted to pay, the person got banned. Hence, I was refunded. Maybe I am lucky.

Fast forward, this year July, I decided to restart the book publishing business online. Looking at the current situation, it would take years to resume back to normal. Therefore, I wanted to build another portable business. Usually, in 6 months’ time, I would be able to pull myself out of the business and just play the passive role of ‘watch and guide’ my team.

2. Gathering the tools

It’s not difficult to find tools to help you built this business from ground zero. If you know what questions to ask yourself, you will have a bunch of tools in no time to produce wonderfully stunning books.

Knowing what you need to produce the final output is very important. If you choose the wrong tools, money, time and effort would go to waste. Therefore, I am very careful. At the same time, some money needs to be set aside for marketing those new books.

This article will be focusing on LOW/NO CONTENT book publishing model. Meaning we produce books like a coloring book, puzzle book, year planner, guest book, and composition books are classified as low or no content books.

2 main component you need to create your first book on Amazon.

Book Interior + Book Cover

Plus you need to know how to follow instructions like this:

Step 1: Sign up for an Amazon KDP account.

Step 2: Setup your payment gateway. If you’re from Singapore, let me know. I will show you a direct way to collect your royalties.

Step 3: Sign up to Tangent Template to get all your interiors. A DIY interior generation website with one-time payment (use for a lifetime)

Step 4: Sign up with Vectzeey.com to get commercially licensed images for your book cover. (monthly subscription plan of $14/mth)

Step 5: Sign up with Canva.com if you’re not a professional graphic designer. This is for designing your book cover. It’s free anyway. I don’t use this website anymore because I have hired a programmer and built an efficiency tool to generate 40 new designs per day. But Canva is an easy to use tool for a beginner.

Step 6: A good keyword research tool. I am using PublisherRocket (PAID one- time) and Google Keyword Planner (FREE). For a beginner, you can use Amazon suggestions or GKP.

So far these are the tools you will need to get started towards the journey to become an online publisher.

If you did everything correctly, you will be well moving towards owning a portable publishing business. You can scale this business into 4 figures, 5 figures, or 6 figures business. It’s really up to you to put in the effort required.

In the next article, I will share more on how to conduct research and maximize your effort to get more sales from book publishing.
